What it is
The StarTech.com ST121SHD50 is an HDMI extender kit that sends a 1080p signal up to 50m (165 ft) over a single CAT5e or CAT6 cable. It includes both the transmitter and receiver units, an HDMI cable, mounting brackets, and a power adapter. Only one power supply is needed — the transmitter powers the receiver over the same cable run.
Who it's for
AV installers and IT teams running displays in meeting rooms, classrooms, or public spaces where the screen can't sit next to the source. It suits anyone who already has CAT5e or CAT6 infrastructure in place and wants to avoid pulling new HDMI cable through walls or ceilings.
Why it's good
Power over cable means one less socket to find at the remote end — the receiver draws power from the transmitter unit. Both units are aluminium-bodied and rack-mountable, so they sit cleanly in an equipment rack or AV cabinet. Choose this when your source and display are up to 50m apart and you have CAT5e or CAT6 already in the wall.
