How a primary school checks ICT grant eligibility (Ireland)

1. It’s handled by the Department of Education

  • The ICT grant is allocated automatically.

  • Schools do not apply, fill out forms, or plead their case.

  • Eligibility is based on data the Department already has.

What the Department checks (behind the scenes)

They use existing records to confirm:

  • ✅ School is recognised by the Department

  • ✅ It’s a primary school (mainstream / DEIS / special schools may get different rates)

  • Enrolment numbers (big driver of the € amount)

  • ✅ School status for the current academic year

If the school exists on the system → it’s in the queue.

How the school knows it’s eligible

Schools are notified via:

  • 📩 Official circular from the Department

  • 💻 Esinet / OLCS (school admin portals)

  • 💰 Grant appears in the school’s bank account once released

If the money lands — congrats, you’re eligible. That’s the test.
